Ray Willie
Coach
ray is currently the head swimming coach for
Hauppauge swim club. During his time with
Hauppauge he has dedicated himself to
improving the competitive atmosphere of the
program. He works with all age groups,
improving their techniques as well as their
attitudes to win. He has several Zone and
Top 16 swimmers in his program.
Before
Hauppauge Ray was the Head Junior coach for
Three Village swim club. There he had
several Top 16 swimmers, as well as,
swimmers who advanced to Olympic trials
after graduation.
Prior
to coming to Long Island to coach Ray was a
14 time All American for the University at
Buffalo. He was two time MVP for the
University, freshman of the year in 1989 and
Upper New York State swimmer of the Year in
1989. He became Captain of the University
squad and from there began his love for
coaching. He stayed on as assistant coach
for one year before moving to assistant
coach for Canisius College Men’s and
Women’s Division I swimming program. It
was then that he began coaching age group
swimmers with the Cheektowaga stingrays.
With the Stingrays he was the head junior
coach and had his first Top 16 swimmer Matt
Kemp.
He
has been published in splash magazine twice
for drill techniques on both Breaststroke
and competitive dives.
